Maharaj Ji was born into a Brahmin family in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
His childhood name was Anirudh Kumar Pandey.
His father's name was Shri Shambhu Pandey and his mother's name was Smt. Rama Devi.
His grandfather took sannyas (renunciation), setting an early example of spiritual dedication in the family.
It is said that Lord Bholenath himself blessed Premanand Ji Maharaj with his presence.
He used to have only one meal a day.
In the routine of their ascetic life, He used to take a bath in the Ganges three times a day
and meditated on and worshipped Lord Shiva and Mother Ganga at Tulsi Ghat.
When he turned 13 years old, he made the decision to become a celibate
and thereafter renounced their home to become a monk.
